Configuring Cognos Framework Manager

When you install Cognos Framework Manager, you have some extra work to do to make your newly minted FM instance talk to a remote Cognos server.  Cognos FM installs expecting your Cognos service to be on the same machine, so everything defaults to localhost.  When you want to map to another server, you need to do the following:

  1. Go to your c10\configuration folder and delete the directories encryptkeypair and signkeypair (depending on your situation, you may need to also delete the csk folder if it is there).  These encryption keys will be regenerated when you reconfigure Cognos Configuration to look at the remote Cognos server.  If you do not delete them, Cognos Configuration will report that it cannot save the keys and must do it in plain text.  Without regenerated keys, you will not be able to connect.
  2. Start Cognos Configuration, and reset the gateway URI and the Dispatcher URI for external applications to map to the Cognos server you want.  When you save these settings, your encryption key files will be regenerated.
