If you should ever be called upon to reinstall Cognos Express, you may find that you run into some difficulty. It took me a while to figure out which components were giving me trouble, but after a diligent search, I found the problem.
In my case, I uninstalled Cognos Express, and eventually Cognos Framework Manager, Cognos Architect and Cognos Data Advisor. Attempting to uninstall IBM Informix was not successful but had no bearing on the eventual results. After these were gone, my install was still failing. My installation process was reporting error codes SDK-ERR-0064, SDK-ERR-0148 and exiting with code 3010.
A message board discussion on www.bi-expert.co.uk caught my attention. It was reporting one of my two error codes plus the same exit code. The suggested remedy was to remove the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables. My list of redistributables was slightly different, but I decided to give it a shot. It worked!
So if you remove your Visual C++ redistributables you should be able to install Cognos Express again.
